Thermally Modified Ash Wood Deck for Exterior Use

The key benefit of using softwood for applications that demand high durability while maintaining its ecologically benign qualities is that softwood can be thermally treated.

Characteristics of thermally modified wood:

  • According to European Standard EN 350-2, non-durable (class 5) softwood species can be used to produce durability classes 1-3.
  • The biological resistance to the majority of microorganisms and insects has improved.
  • Swelling and shrinkage are minimised by 50% to 90%.
  • The hue of the treated wood has deepened.
  • In contrast, there is a 30% reduction in bending strength.
  • In principle, all wood species can be subjected to the heat treatment procedure.

The following dimensions of thermally treated ash decking are available from the ZIRO firm.

  • 1800 / 2400 x 112 x 20mm (Brushed)
